Happy Fourth of July!

Sometimes a person with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD) can miss “connections”. The missed connections can affect social skills, learning, emotions, ability, and perception of life in general.

My “Connection” to the Fourth of July

I am number seven out of eight children. My late sister Nancy (number 2) was 13 years older than me At the age of three my life’s purpose was to secretly follow her (from a distance of probably three feet!) and watch her every move.

And learn.  Learn as much as I couldI desperately wanted to learn what it was she was doing that was so special.  I wanted to find out what it was so that I could do it too.  I just knew that “it” had to be a “something”  that I wasn’t doing right.  I was determined to figure it out, even at that young age.

Trying to figure it out kept me awake at night.  I would think about all that I saw Nancy do during the day. At night in bed, instead of sleeping I would try to put it together so that it made sense.  For the life of me I couldn’t.

I would always come back to the same burning question:  What is it that Nancy is doing that I could do,  so I can get a big parade and fireworks on my birthday too?

Happy Birthday, Nancy!
